Eurocamp Pulling Out From Several French Camping Parks

Eurocamp are pulling out from several French camping parks. This includes some of their most popular locations such as Les Peneyrals, La Palombiere, La Bastide en Ardeche and Soleil Plage.

The full list they are withdrawing from is as follows:

Le Littoral in Les Sables d’Olonne;
Les Ilates in Ile de Ré;
Les Peneyrals in Salignac;
La Palombiere in Sarlat;
Camping Club Mar Estang in Canet;
Domaine Du Verdon in Castellane;
La Bastide en Ardèche in Sampzon;
Soleil Plage in Vitrac.

For the moment they are all listed on Eurocamp but if you enter any dates at all for them in 2019, they come up as unavailable regardless of which dates in 2019 you choose to enter.

Eurocamp Pulling Out From Several French Camping Parks

La Bastide en Ardèche in Sampzon is one of the camping parks in France which will no longer be available through Eurocamp.

There are a variety of different reasons for Eurocamp pulling out from these locations. Some such as Les Peneyrals and Soleil Plage have been bought up by other camping companies. Sandaya have bought Les Peneyrals and Le Littoral and Tohapi have bought Soleil Plage. Tohapi incidentally are the owners of Canvas Holidays. Others have simply opted to market themselves away from Eurocamp.

It is important to stress that all the camping parks listed above plan to reopen for next year. It’s just that they will no longer be available through Eurocamp. You will still be able to book them directly or through a different operator, such as Sandaya or Tohapi. If booking through an operator or business based outside of the UK that you might not have the same level of payment protection on your holiday such as you would get through ABTA when booking through Eurocamp.

Eurocamp stress that they are actively seeking alternative camping parks to replace those no longer available through them. To keep things in perspective, there will still be over 180 other camping parks available to book through Eurocamp, well over a hundred of which are in France, with the likelihood of more being added in due course. Watch out for further updates!

Camping Les Ecureuils

Camping In The Vendee With Eurocamp At Camping Les Ecureuils

Camping Les Ecureils

Miles of sandy Vendee beaches are just over the road from Camping Les Ecureuils.

In August 2017 we had the opportunity to spend a few days at Camping Les Ecureuils in the Vendee with Eurocamp.

It was a great opportunity to see how a popular camping park was coping with the school summer holidays in full swing.

The holiday camp seemed to be coping quite comfortably despite being full. We managed two hours of tennis on each day of our stay, only needing to book on the morning of each day we wanted to play. The bar was lively and friendly with efficient service in both French and English. There is a small supermarket on site for groceries, especially the ritual morning baguettes and croissants for breakfast.

Other available activities included table tennis tables, which were never too busy to get on to, There is also a nice restaurant called Amy’s House, including a terrace to give the option of dining outdoors as well as inside the restaurant.

The swimming pool is reasonably sized and never seemed overcrowded despite large numbers of holidaymakers making full use of it each day. My one minor gripe was the tendency to unofficially reserve the sun loungers by placing towels on them and then disappearing for several hours before making use of them, but this seems to be the universal thing to do now wherever you are holidaying.

Camping Les Ecureuils seemed to be particularly geared towards giving young children a good time, with a popular kids club and plenty of activity in the bar area in the early evening geared towards young children.

If you wanted to get away from the campsite, there is an option to hire bicycles to take advantage of the cycle paths in the area. The resort towns of St Jean de Mont and St Giles Croix de Vie are both within easy reach both by cycle and by car. It’s also worth noting that there are miles of sandy beaches straight over the road from the campsite. Despite it being a sunny August weekend there was plenty of space for everyone.

St Giles Croix de Vie has some excellent traditional French restaurants, while the evening market in St Jean de Mont has a lively, vibrant atmosphere to add to the beach culture of the resort. For a trip further afield by car, the island of Noirmoutier, which can be reached by a modern bridge, was a very enjoyable day out. It has some fine beaches and has an old town of some charm and several villages.

For a trip more directly suitable for younger children, the famous historical theme park at Puy de Fou, which we visited some years ago, is about an hour and a half away and should be a special day out for them.

We found several bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of Camping Les Ecureuils for either a family meal, a drink, or both.

You’ll find a wide selection of different accommodation options at Camping Les Ecureils including the new Avant style holiday chalets, more traditional Espace and Esprit holiday caravans, safari tents and more traditional camping tents. There’s also room for some tourers which can be booked through Eurocamp Independent.

The site seemed primarily geared towards Eurocamp visitors with no signs of other operators being present there. The reps were all friendly and helpful during our stay.

Camping Les Ecureuils scores highly on holiday review sites and after our visit I can definitely see why.

Hopefully you are managing to enjoy some of the spring sunshine we’ve been having recently. As winter is finally being left behind us, you’re most likely thinking ahead to well deserved breaks and holidays. To get you in the right frame of mind, this week we’re featuring a selection of Eurocamp’s camping holiday camps in Languedoc and Roussillon in the far south of France.

This is where the south of France meets Catalonia – it’s almost like two holidays in one. As well as beautiful sun-drenched beaches and harbours, this is a diverse region well worth exploring. Deep gorges cut into the mountains, lakes and marshland that are a haven for birds from all over the world including thousands of pink flamingos, and miles of vineyards are bounded by a coast of warm sandy beaches and windy headlands ideal for sports enthusiasts.

For trips out, a drive inland to explore the ancient walled city of Carcassonne is a must. Alternatives include the beautiful old quarter of Béziers, or spreading your wings a little more and heading into the Pyrénées and Spanish Catalonia.

The camping holiday parks we have featured have some great savings if you act now. To find out more just click where indicated. If you’ve already stayed at one of them why not share your experiences in our comments box below?
