Here are a select few to seriously consider.
Oaklands Glamping
Oaklands Glamping has two safari lodges called Bluebell and Foxglove and a treehouse called Heartwood. This is a simple chic luxury experience with plenty of facilities including a hot stove, roll-top baths and a farmhouse kitchen. A hot tub will add to the feeling of luxuriously unwinding here under the stars.
Surrounded by magnificent scenery in the Welsh countryside, there is plenty to explore, including nearby Welshpool and Powys Castle, originally a classic medieval castle dating back to the thirteenth century which received a few modifications during the Stuart and other eras. A trip on the narrow-gauge Welshpool and Llanfair light railway, taking you through some of the most beautiful scenery in Wales, is especially recommended.
Please note that this is an adults only glamping site, particularly suitable for couples and other small groups, but not for hen or stag partying.
Red Kite Conkers
Red Kite Conkers, near Newbridge-On-Way, must rank among the more unusual places you could choose to stay. Don’t be deceived by their quirky appearance. bright white hexagons forming the inner shell of a modular monocoque structure together with porthole shaped windows allow for plenty of light inside. The fabulously bright and airy interior certainly has a dash of the sci-fi about it.
Outside you will find a terraced area, complete with a firepit, so that you can relax and take in the spectacular views next to a crackling fire. The terrace also has an outside kitchen, a private shower and a toilet to keep things all very civilised – though not totally conventional. Each of the conkers is suitable for two people.
Red Kite Conkers is a totally off-grid escape where you can spend days out walking, then return to sit next to the fire watching the ever-changing landscape. Located in the heart of a private conservation estate you are guaranteed to see considerable wildlife as well as some spectacular walks directly from the door. Do note you are at least ten minutes away from the nearest mobile phone signal.
Trawscwm Treehouse
Trawscwm Treehouse near Llandrindod Wells in Powys is a treehouse built on stilts at a Site Of Specific Scientific Interest in Mid Wales. Leading features of Trawscwm Treehouse include a terrace with a hot tub and a bridge to a separate seating area. Inside you will find an open plan kitchen, a bedroom, and living space. The property is suitable for two adults and up to two children, though the owners do not allow children under 6 years old due to the height of the mezzanine floor.
When arriving you will be greeted by a beautiful balcony and the terrace on stilts. The large wooden deck surrounding the treehouse, which wraps around the trunk of the tree, offers a chance to lounge in the sun or take a dip in the hot tub.
There’s a fully equipped, modern kitchen with breakfast bar, lounge space and French doors stepping out onto the terrace. Tucked away in the corner is the bedroom area with a king sized bed. A ladder, which slots out of the way when required, is brought down to reveal the mezzanine level and further single beds suitable for 2 children.
The bathroom has a stylish copper and tiled design. There’s a shower cubicle, bath, and toilet, while suspended between the stilts underneath the treehouse is a hammock where guests can while away the time with a book, while a small bridge across the stream leads to chiminea with further seating – perfect for an evening drink while watching the sunset.
