Set in the grounds of an old manor house, Le Domaine de la Brèche is a 5 Star rated camping park very close to the river bank of the Loire itself. It has a reputation for very high standards. There is a fantastic swimming pool complex here with four pools and as many water slides. It also has two tennis courts, a volleyball net, a sports field, a pitch and putt golf course and a pond for fishing which connects to the Loire and around which the campsite was first constructed over 50 years ago. There is also a minimarket for shopping, a bar and a restaurant which has a terrace area.

Acres of space and woodland around the campsite are ideal for exploring either on foot or by cycling.

There are several different types of accommodation which can be booked here, including upmarket mobile homes such as the Aspect featured above, more basic but still comfortable mobile homes and safari tents. Although very spacious, even when full it will still feel like there is plenty of space here, the campsite has just 235 pitches so early booking is recommended, particularly in high season.

Camping Parc de Fierbois has long been a favourite for family camping in the Loire Valley, especially those with young children. It is a 5 Star campsite in the Les Castels group of camping parks and is about 25 miles south of Tours. With 394 pitches it is one of the larger campsites in the Loire but still not massively large.

Located about 25 miles south of Tours, near the village of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fierbois, it is an ideal base for exploring the more central part of the Loire including Tours itself, the medieval castle at Chinon, the Renaissance Chateaux of Amboise and Azay-le-Rideau or for a longer day out, the well known theme park of Futuroscope is less than an hour’s drive further south.

Facilities on the camping park include an indoor and an outdoor pool and a paddling pool for toddlers. The outdoor pool is a large lagoon with multiple rock features and five waterslides. There are two tennis courts, four table tennis tables, a football pitch, a volleyball net, a basketball court and a badminton court.

There is a campsite supermarket for shopping, a restaurant, a pizzeria, a takeaway and a bar. During July and August there is live entertainment too. Camping Parc de Fierbois has a reputation for being one of the noisier or lively campsites, depending on your point of view. If you like having plenty to do and a fun packed holiday then this is probably the place for you. If you prefer it quieter then a more out-of-season visit will suit you better if you’d still like to come here.

Camping Les Nobis d’Anjou is a friendly 4 Star campsite on the banks of the Thouet river at the foot of the castle of Montreuil-Bellay, near Saumur. You can stay here by renting a mobile home or bungalow tent or by staying in your own tent, caravan, trailer tent or campervan.

This is an ideal location for exploring the western part of the Loire. Facilities here include a very passable, outdoor, heated swimming pool. As well as it’s own highly regarded restaurant and bar, the campsite is very close to some fine restaurants in Montreuil-Bellay itself, if you don’t mind climbing the steps up the ramparts into the town.

Nearby locations worth visiting include Fontrevraud Abbey, the ancestral home of the Plantagenet Kings of England, Saumur, a scenic town with it’s own castle overlooking the Loire and medieval streets, and the Chateau de Montsoreau, the setting of the Alexandre Dumas novel, La Dame de Monsoreau.

You will usually have to book static accommodation here in advance but it would be unusual for there to be no room for tourers passing through who wish to stay here.
