The New Forest and camping go together for any enthusiast of outdoor living in beautiful countryside. The New Forest is one of the last remaining areas of unenclosed pastures, heathland and forest that still remains in the south of England.
A great area for country walking, free roaming wildlife including deer and horses are amongst it’s most memorable highlights. Several attractive villages, including Beaulieu (home to the famous British National Motor Museum), Burley, Buckler’s Hard, Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst also lie within the New Forest and are enjoyable places to visit. It’s also ringed by several attractive country towns such as Downton, Fordingbridge, Lymington and Milford On Sea. Paultons Park, with over 70 rides and attractions, is one of the leading theme parks in the south of England and makes for a great family day out for your children to remember.
Naturally there are many attractive New Forest camping sites to suit all kinds of camping tastes, as well as variations on camping such as chalet caravan accommodation in well maintained holiday parks and luxury log cabin and lodge accommodation. 1) Sandy Balls Holiday Park
Sandy Balls is a five-star holiday village in the New Forest National Park, between Godshill and Fordingbridge, offering accommodation that includes luxury woodland lodges, static holiday homes, camping pods and safari tents as well as fully serviced touring pitches.

2) Shorefield Country Park
A 5 Star rated multiple award winning holiday park set in 100 acres of delightful landscaped parkland, near Milford-on-Sea, Shorefield Country Park has a perfect location between the New Forest and the Solent, being just a few minutes walk from the cliffside, with lovely views across the Solent to the Needles on the western end of the Isle of Wight, as well as being close to Christchurch.
Accommodation options include chalets, static caravans, luxury lodges (complete with your own private hot tub), houses and cottages. If touring or camping is your preferred option, a stay at nearby Lytton Lawn, set in 8 acres of well maintained parkland, is just a short distance away and entitles you to the use of the facilities at Shorefield Country Park itself.

3) Cypress Log Cabins
Located on the B3078 country road through the New Forest between Sandy Balls and the Fighting Cocks pub, Cypress Log Cabins caters for adult visitors and is particularly popular amongst holidaying couples. It has a reputation for providing comfortable accommodation, offering a relaxed and informal setting for visitors that’s perfectly located for exploring the New Forest.
There are four rooms, each with a continential in-room self-service breakfast. All the rooms have a private decking area and three of them have their own private hot tub. They all have electric fireplaces, flat-screen TVs and DVD players.

4) Oakdene Forest Park
Oakdene Forest Park is in a tranquil location on the edge of the Hurn & Avon Forest, a few miles to the west of the New Forest itself near Ferndown. Self-catering accommodation here consists of static caravans and lodges.
On-site activities include water-walkerz, archery, body-zorbing as well as a state-of-the-art gym among a diverse array of exciting ways to get active, including a large indoor pool, and a seasonal outdoor pool. There is a restaurant, bar and show bar for evening entertainment, complete with live acts, cabaret, tribute bands, family fun and games from the campsite mascots and entertainments team.

5) Hollands Wood Campsite
Hollands Wood campsite is set in 22 hectares of beautiful oak woodland just north of Brockenhurst, with touring pitches set amidst the giant oak trees here. There are 600 pitches here, all set on grassland, with a toilet block and showers. The site has no electricity as it is intended as a get away from it all location, ideal if you’re looking for a digital detoxification.
Hollands Wood enjoys direct access into the New Forest via numerous walking and cycle paths, and is within easy reach of a very pretty picnic site at Balmer Lawn next to the Lymington River, a perfect spot for lunch or any other meal, next to an enchanting waterway – with abundant wildlife all around.
Whenever you might feel the need to get back to “civilisation” and offsite refreshments, Brockenhurst and it’s pubs, banks, shops and restaurants are just a ten minute stroll away.
Getting back to nature, near to where horses and other wildlife roam freely is a major part of the attraction of Hollands Walk. 6) Hoburne Naish
Hoburne Naish is a beautiful holiday park with a clubhouse that was refurbished in 2016, and has a restaurant, bar, coffee shop and takeaway. There is a heated indoor pool, a splash pool for really little ones and a seasonally open outdoor pool, along with a nature trail, mini golf, adventure playground, a tennis court, an amusement arcade and lots more, including a bar and a children’s play area. If you wish to, you can head straight to the beach the moment you’ve checked in!
Hoburne Naish is near to the New Forest town of New Milton and has panoramic sea views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight from its splendid cliff-top location.
Accommodation options include static caravans and lodges complete with hot tubs. There are no options for touring holidays however as in the past this caused some of the facilities here to get overrun in peak periods ….. Read more »
7) Red Shoot Camping Park
In the heart of the New Forest up a country road off the B3078 Cadnam to Fordingbridge road near the hamlet of Linwood is Red Shoot Camping Park. Red Shoot welcomes tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans and can offer a choice of both electric and non-electric grass pitches. Facilities include an on-site shop and bakery, children’s play area, laundry room, under floor heated showers/toilets and family and disabled bathrooms, which are all maintained to a high standard.
The focus is on families and couples so noisy hen or stag parties and large group bookings are not permitted here. Dogs are permitted.
The popular Red Shoot Inn is a quintessential country pub next to the campsite. Children and dogs are welcome in this Wadsworth Brewery pub, which also has it’s own microbrewery where you can sample the likes of Tom’s Tipple and Forest Gold. There’s also plenty of home cooked pub grub for days when you might be bored at the thought of another BBQ or the weather isn’t suitable for al fresco dining.
Red Shoot Camping Park is usually open from March to October. Winners of a TripAdvisor Award for Excellence in 2014, 2015 and 2016, it is a very popular campsite so it is advisable to book in advance in busy periods. You must do that by phoning up as there is no online booking option. Read more »
8) Hoburne Bashley
Located on the south western edge of the New Forest at Bashley, between New Milton and Sway, Hoburne Bashley has a host of activities and amenities for visitors including an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, a sauna & steam room, Satellite TV, a Fitness Room and a WiFi hotspot.
Accommodation here comes in the shape of static caravans. Feedback from visitors are that these are well maintained and Hoburne Bashley enjoys a very good reputation amongst online reviewers, including TripAdvisor and Reevoo.
Golfers will enjoy the 9-hole, par 3 golf course and driving range on this site, complete with a resident golf pro (charges do apply for using this amenity).
A Woodland Centre will encourage youngsters to embrace the natural beauty on your doorstep if you opt for a holiday here. Bushcraft and woodland management are amongst the courses on offer here.
There are plenty of options for walking and cycling on the woodland paths and trails immediately outside the site. As it is only a ten minute drive to the beach, a day at the seaside is an easy alternative to exploring the New Forest if you feel like it.
